These are the birds of the week eating like a bunch of pigs between them and the woodpeckers. I took these pictures all at one time so I know I have 3 of the Rose-Breasted Grosbeak. They are beautiful birds. I had a scout last year but they didn't stay around but this year I have these 3 and I believe they have nests somewhere near by. I am glad I get to enjoy them. As you can see it was taken while it was raining they didn't stop, water was dripping off their tails.
My little friend look like he is mad about something cute expression and I like the way his foot is up on the feeder. I spend a lot of time watching the birds as I move from one room to another. I have great views and birds are important part of our environment they eat their body weight in insects. The Brown Trasher acts like he is digging a garden the dirt just flies constantly picking at the ground for insects. He came yesterday I see the Brown Thrasher and the Towhee for a week or two and then they are gone. I guess I am a refreshment stop for them I am lucky they remember this place.
Farm Report: The heifers and babies have had their shots and are in their summer pasture. The cows are later as we like to keep the heifers where we can help if they need it. The cows are calving at the same time but a different pasture. The anhydrous is being applied and that is going good. The planter has been checked out and is sitting in front of the shed. We have rain coming back in this week so we will see what the next job will be.
This fellow has a sharp eye and catches my birds. You can tell when he is around the birds make an exit and wait until he is gone. Sometimes it is hours. One day a squirrel almost ran into him on the ground that would have been a sight to see, not sure who would have won that battle
The Blue Jay only comes by in the early morning and will eat on the ear of corn that I have out for the squirrels so they won't eat the sunflowers seed it is a battle, some days he wins. Not sure how many there are.
Farm report: Yes we have been busy with calving not sure of the number but there are several little calves on the ground running around in the pasture neighbors love to stop and watch.
Looks like the rain has passed through and maybe we have a third of a inch all rain is welcome in small amounts as I think we need more moisture in the ground.
Been quite some time since I have been on here. The birds help feed the squirrels and then the hawks helps himself to the birds. Gods plan I guess they all get to eat that way. I started it all by putting out feed I can't stop now I have been feeding the birds for years.
All the crops are in and the cattle worked ready for this winter. The cows are in the field behind our house where they will spend their time until spring. Just thought I would drop in maybe be back again take care.
We had a group of FFA students from N Caroline. Their event in the county was canceled because of weather. They stopped by and also visited the Candy Kitchen We were happy to have them

Farm report: we are like all farmers in our area too wet to work the last few days. They were able to work the weaned calves they get shots for deceases like Black leg etc.
We need some drying days so we can finish beans. We will move on to corn and knock out some of those acres. Take care until next time
Fall is my favorite season wish the temperature was fall all the time. I know since I am part of a farming family those hot summer degree days are critical to our crop production.
Since it was cooler yesterday I needed to cut off and remove lots of my plants that had over grown their space.

Farm Report: Have been in the field several days, had a few hiccups as always, moving right along Planted some grass in the hay fields, worked cattle and weaned some calves. Just staying with the program. Take care until we talk again
I always like to plant sunflowers. They make you smile but the birds like them even more. At this stage I guess the seeds are softer than when they dry out. The birds hang upside down to eat from the sunflowers
The rain we had a week or so ago was so great for the crops we got 4 or so inches in 4 days As I write this it is thundering out side
Stay safe until next time
Every year I feed the hummingbirds and enjoy watching them. Sometimes they get mean to each other as was today but then they settle down and have a drink and all is good.

He was guarding the feeder not sure why there is plenty for all of them.

Farm report Crops are coming right along Some of the hay has had a second cutting.
Cows and calves are doing good. Took a trailer load of fats to Rockville, In. got a few left in the feed lot. The rain is something we needed before the heat returned. Hope everyone is enjoying their summer. Until next time stay safe
I posted in my last blog a few days ago about the straw we put in the barn? There are no stupid questions in farming. Not everyone knows how we put up hay and straw. I have taken these pictures today to explain what we do when I said putting up straw. Today was a hay day.

The tractor above has a square baler behind you run it down a wind row it is picked up by the baler run through it and out comes a bale of hay even tied with 2 strings. A square bale weighs around 50 to 60 pounds

Moving on this is a round baler also pulled by a tractor that makes the big round bales they weigh around 1400 to 1500 pounds. It was teeth in front that picks up the hay runs it through and out comes the bale tied with surface wrap

These are wind rows the farmer used a rake that is pulled by the tractor, that rakes it into these rows so the balers can pick it up. The hay in the beginning is cut by a hay bind that cuts it and lays it flat this has to cure a few days need lots of sun and good weather, then it is raked the rest is explained above.annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17093228051226352211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-371975390306705901.post-38538641728818666402016-06-28T21:45:00.001-04:002016-06-28T21:45:44.747-04:00Wheat Harvest

Wheat Harvest seem to happen on the hottest days of the year. If I am not mistaken it was 97 degrees and 97% humidity my guys walked the fields and picked up all of the straw. I was the driver easy compared to what they did. We use it in the barns so the calves have a dry place to lay down especially when it is wet and in winter weather. We have round baled some to unroll for the cows that are out on pasture. Just another day in the life of a farmer. God gave us a great day to unload.
We got 2.97 inches of rain last week and the next day it was all gone that is how dry it has been.
I prefer this weather we had today. Take care until next time
Sometimes we wonder what goes on while we sleep. When your pot of flowers is thrown out all over the ground? You can guess about that one. But when the fire department comes to put out a fire in a Soybean field that is just not right. The poor church lost their bus because someone wanted to take a joy ride But why set it on fire??? Pray for the Church that they may find another bus.
Have a good week we will talk again!
Went down in the bottom ground to check out sighting of animals thought it was a fox but no one was sure. Took camera and field glasses and this is what we found. Not sure about the mounds are they from the coyote pup or if it is a fox's den there are 2 different ones. Is the pup hungry and looking for food.
This is my hound dog she will chase anything. And Bentley will sit and wait on her to come back to the house. Keeps a close eye on her. They were a mating couple until I got them. No more puppies. They do everything together going on 7 years old.
Farm Bureau had there ice cream social last night. It is always fun to fellowship with all our agriculture friends we have a common bond. Tonight it was at a farm near Monrovia where the family collect tractors, trucks and other vehicles.
The ice cream, pies, cookies and cakes were a real hit. Thank You Farm Bureau for sponsoring a great evening.

Farm report: Making Hay while the sun shines. Cutting pastures so we can find the calves. And hauling grain to the city. Some areas around us got 3 inches of rain in 45 minutes that is a lot of rain.
Praying for the folks in Texas Take care until next time
This was my visitor today. I heard what I thought was a hammer and when I went to the window this fellow was busy working on a tree stump that was about 100 years old. The REMC cut the tree down a few years ago. I guess he was getting his breakfast.

Take care and have a safe weekend
I was ask on Face Book if I would like to try Downy Wrinkle Release. I iron a lot I don't like wrinkled shirts and pants even the ones I wear on the farm. I tried this product today I had a load of clothes in the dryer when this box came. So I opened it I wasn't sure it was for me the driver did a address check and said it goes here. These pictures tell the story how well this product works. I will definitely continue to use this the company sent me samples to try. They even had the small ones for your purse. You may go check them out http://www.nehemiahmfg.com or www.downywrinklereleaser.com

I have been watching for the birds that pass through this area every spring. I saw the Brown Thrasher last night but couldn't get a picture. I was aware he or she, they both look alike, was in the yard under the feeder eating worms, insects and sunflower seeds.
Just wanted to share my good fortune
The weather is suppose to be clear for the next week. Please watch for all the tractors as the Farmers will be trying to play catch up.
Until next time
It is all about farming How we farm and what we do on that farm. Do you raise animals or grain. How do you take care of them and the soil. Speaking first hand and I think I can speak for anyone that I know always put the animals first and has concerns about the soil conditions We are in a raining period and I would like to see it go away but we need moisture in the soil to grow a crop. God gives us rain we will accept rain. We need to remember there is a plan bigger than we are so be calm trust in God and pray.

These are some of the Farm merchandise being produced by the manufacturers.

Farm report We are all in the same boat doing what we can, until next time maybe I will have a better weather report
Starting seeds in this weather is fruitless. Poor seed will probably rot before they germinate. I have transplanted several Hosta if anyone is interested in some small Hosta plants please get a hold of me I would be happy to share. It has been a good year for them to explode everywhere
Farm report: Back in some of the fields with both planters running. Will continue hauling grain when not in the field.
Take care until next time
Today is Mother's Day this afternoon turned out sunny but the last few day have been cold and wet.
I started my garden about a month ago didn't think it would ever come up. Started with 4 tomatoes but will add about 12 more but I am waiting on the temperature to rise.
Farm report no new calves this week but they have pulled out several replacement heifers. The main herd is aging just like us!! Hauling grain and spraying some fields but it is to wet to plant.
Take care and have a great week
Mothers Day is this coming Sunday May 8th I know it comes every year but it just gets here faster now that I am older or maybe it is I am busier, not sure which it is. Just a few items for gift ideas.

Farm report: All of this rain is not good, might have been welcome if it came in July and we were dry but we are still planting crops. Too wet to do anything and the storms move things around so you have to clean up after it passes through. Had another calf this morning she was waiting for the storm came. I guess if we watched the barometric pressure we could learn something about when the cows will calf.
Hoping for dry weather to finish planting and then to mowing hay this rain has it growing faster than normal.
Take care, until next time
It is election year and all you have to do is pick up a newspaper or turn on the radio or TV the air ways are full of people talking about each other instead of them self. You as the voter must make a decision. I will leave it at that

Farm report: We had a couple more calves they are so darn cute. Field work is going great guns working long hours but getting that corn in the ground. Expecting a much needed rain the next few days
Take care until next time
